Say hello to ZooTampa

Voted Best Kids Attraction in Tampa Magazine’s Best of South Tampa 2021 awards, ZooTampa at Lowry Park rescues, rehabilitates, and cares for wildlife. They emphasize endangered, threatened, and vulnerable species from climates similar to that of the Tampa Bay region, with park areas devoted to Asia, Africa, Australia and Florida. They create exceptional and personalized experiences that connect people to wildlife with fun and immersive activities.

“Prior to QR Codes we relied heavily on physical signage, printed flyers, and paper maps for in-park communications. Tracking consumption of physical and printed signage was difficult or impossible in many cases. In addition to being costly, printed materials are wasteful. By utilizing QR Codes, our marketing efforts have become more aligned with our mission and vision of protecting wildlife and the environment.”

Steve Marsicano, Manager of Digital Marketing & Content at ZooTampa at Lowry Park

ZooTampa needed an easy way to distribute and communicate information to in-park guests.

Building up a more refined communication channel

ZooTampa needed an easy way to distribute and communicate information to in-park guests. Before QR Codes, they mostly relied on print advertisements, physically printed media, and paper maps that were not cost-effective and made it difficult to track any campaign results. They wanted a simple and elegant solution to help promote their new mobile food ordering system, the ZooTampa mobile app, and effectively collect guest experience surveys. They found QR Codes to be the perfect tool.

QR Codes played a key role in helping ZooTampa achieve record monthly food and beverage revenue.

Record-high app signups

QR Codes played a key role in helping ZooTampa achieve record monthly food and beverage revenue. During Spring Break, they launched a new mobile app, which incorporated contactless, mobile food ordering. By strategically linking to their app by placing QR Codes throughout the park, they were able to reach over 10,000 app users in the first month of launch, with over 25% of those coming from QR Code scans alone.

Shifting to a green solution with QR Codes

Using QR Codes in their advertising strategies has aligned ZooTampa’s marketing efforts more closely to their mission and vision of protecting wildlife and the environment. In addition to being costly, the use of printed media was wasteful. Boosting their print marketing with more QR Code-centered digitized content helped curve their expenses and environmental impact, helping them create more environmentally-friendly marketing campaigns.

Augmenting the brand experience

On the left side of the screen, the interface shows a 3-step process to book an encounter with zoo animals. On the left side of the screen, users are invited to download the app.

As with any tool, versatility and adaptability are vital to creating a seamless experience. And that’s what ZooTampa loved most about QR Code Generator; the ability to customize and brand their QR Codes. With 16,777,216 colors using #RRGGBB notation or a color picker, as well as a diverse array of frame options, their team was able to integrate QR Codes into their existing brand image without a hitch.
Looking ahead, ZooTampa wants to work towards running retargeting campaigns for users who have scanned their QR Codes.
